The brief
Thi Vo’s family fled Vietnam when he was four, by way of Hong Kong, to Calgary. His father stayed behind. Made in Vietnam is the film about going back.
The idea
No narrator, no hiding. Vo assembles a crew, returns to his homeland and looks for his father, and the camera stays close for the parts most people would cut. At times breathtaking, at times hard to watch, and always about the places we end up calling home.
